A study permit is a basic and mandatory requirement for the majority of international students. But, refusal of a study permit leads a student towards depression and frustration. There could be a variety of reasons for the refusal of a study permit.
Reasons for Refusal
There could be several reasons why there is a refusal of a Canadian study permit application. A letter by IRCC will be issued showing the reasons for the refusal of the study permit. Check the possible reasons for refusal from the list given below:
- 1 : Insufficient proof of Financial Support: While submitting a study permit application, When you submit a study permit application, you are required to testify that you have ample funds to support your living in Canada. As per IRCC, it is mandatory for all the international students to prove that they have sufficient funds to meet their cost of living along with the tuition fees for the first year of study.
- 2 : Your Intention to Leave the Country: A study permit has a starting and ending date. it is a temporary visa with an expiration date. IRCC will question your intention to leave the country. You need to make the visa officer convince that you will leave the country after your study permit expires.
- 3 : Authenticity of Acceptance Letter: It is mandatory to get a letter of acceptance from Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada before applying for a study permit. If the visa officer had any doubt about the genuineness of your letter of acceptance, then your study permit may be refused.
- 4 : Your Choice of Study Program: If the study program you have chosen doesn’t get matched with your prior studies or if the visa officer doesn’t find it logical then there are chances of refusal of your study permit.
What to do if Your Application is Refused
There are two methods to respond to the refusal:
- Appeal the decision: The applicant can request IRCC for reconsidering his/her application.
- Submit a new application: The applicant can submit a new application with all the valid documents and proofs.
